Bioinformatics Courses

Bioinformatics is an important emerging discipline. It is a large and complex subject spanning many aspects of biology, molecular biology, computer science and artificial intelligence. FTT offers a range of courses on bioinformatics ranging from introductory to advanced.

The introductory courses typically fall into one of the following categories. Some span both categories.

• Courses covering relevant concepts in biology, microbiology, and molecular biology. These courses are designed to provide computing professionals with the background knowledge they need to develop bioinformatics applications.
  
  
• Courses covering software engineering and programming, database management systems and artificial intelligence programming. These courses are designed for those coming into bioinformatics from a background in the biological, pharmacological or medical sciences.

The advanced courses explore key aspects of bioinformatics in far greater detail. These included courses on optimising use of database and parallel computing technologies for bioinformatics purposes, pattern matching and pattern recognition techniques, ontologies and semantic web implementation and deployment.
