Web and E-Commerce Curriculum

A New Realm of Technologies

The world-wide web will be the primary shop front for the next generation of consumers. A professional presence on the web, used both as a marketing tool and as a mechanism for business-to-business and business-to-consumer commerce, is becoming essential for today's business.

However, the number of new technologies required to make full use of this medium can present a significant learning hurdle, even to seasoned programmers and system administrators. These technologies include markup languages such as HTML and XML, server-side and client-side scripting languages such as Perl, PHP and Javascript, databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, and web servers such as Apache.

FTT's Web and E-Commerce curriculum teaches the full range of technologies needed to create a professional web presence and to build a secure framework within which to conduct business on the web. For web designers, basic courses teach how to use HTML, XHTML and XML to generate static web content. For administrators, intermediate courses cover the installation and configuration of the Apache web server, and the establishment of a secure framework for e-commerce transactions. For programmers, advanced courses teach a variety of server-side scripting language for creating dynamic web sites which interact with databases and other enterprise resources.

Non-Proprietary and Proprietary Solutions

FTT's Web and E-Commerce curriculum covers both non-proprietary, open-source solutions such as PHP, and proprietary products such as ASP.NET, Cold Fusion, Flash MX and Dreamweaver MX.

New to Programming?

FTT offers a number of "Introduction to Programming" courses (316, 317 and 318) designed to meet the needs of web designers who want extend their web development skills to include server-side and client-side scripting, or to develop database-driven web sites. These courses provide a gentler introduction to suit attendees with no prior knowledge of programming or relational databases.
